I've been in a Tracy Chapman mood lately. For the past couple of weeks whenever I want to hear music (which is all the time) I say "Alexa, play Tracy Chapman" and she (my amazon echo) starts playing her top songs. Of course, the first song that comes on is Fast Car. If you don't know the song Fast Car then I am not sure I can identify with you on a human level. Haha! Anyway, if you know me at all, you know music is my thing. It's easier for me to start a blog post if I think I can get on here and talk a little about music first.
I saw Tracy Chapman live about 15 years ago. She opened for Sting. Whats that you say, she OPENED? Yes, I was shocked too. I'm at Sandstone (aka Verizon Wireless or Cricket or whatever they call Sandstone now) with my parents and my sister anxiously awaiting to see Sting perform. He had just released the album Brand New Day (amazing by the way) and out walks TRACY CHAPMAN. Just her and her guitar. The crowd literally gasps. We had no idea we were in for such a treat. I can still picture her standing up there on that stage all alone... she was quite muscular, long dreads, and a voice with such raw emotion that it brings tears to your eyes.
On a side note, I've also been listening to a lot of Lizzo. Did you see her on the VMAs? She killed it. Just slightly different than Tracy Chapman :) :) :)
Ok, so let's talk about Love Your Nest stuff. Has this cooler weather made you as excited for fall as I am? What are you planning to do for home decor for fall?
I recommend to start on your front porch. Mums are starting to pop up everywhere. I just saw some beautiful mums at the Small-Mart (aka small Wal-Mart, the one on 6th/Wak). Grab yourself a couple of big mums -- most years I get mine from Costco because they offer HUGE mums for a decent price. I am not sure if they have them out yet but I'm betting pretty soon!
No need to go overboard with pumpkins and hay bales yet. Just throw a couple mums out there and call it good, as October gets closer we will add more.
Change your front door mat to something fall related just for fun. Here are some of my favorites...
Or how about this one, Amazon, $24.99...
So cute! Only $15.99...
and one more, I love this saying, $12.99...
Layer this under it, its from Amazon and only $21 for this huge rug!
Lastly, throw a wreath on your door and call it done! I'm embarrassed to tell you how many wreaths I have in storage. I'm kind of wreath obsessed. I'd buy all of these if I could!
This gorgeous, neutral wreath is from Pier 1, $29.99
This one is from Michaels, $36
I am LOVING the hoop wreaths. A lot of them are DIY. I'm not super into DIY... I am more of a D-I-Buy person (I just made that up and it makes no sense but it made me laugh!). But thats just me! Here is one from Etsy that is reasonably priced at $33... I wish they had done a gold hoop but maybe you could request that of the shop owner when you order?
Oh... and one last fall thing to do right now, when we are on the cusp of fall...buy a fall candle! Fall candles are my absolute favorite. I try not to use candles very often because I don't think they are the best for your health (lots of toxins, I'm from Lawrence ok, I am somewhat hippie). I like to diffuse essential oils instead and am currently diffusing Harvest from Doterra (thanks Laura!). But during the fall I make an exception because I crave the Pumpkin Pie candle from Yankee Candle. I also really like the Harvest candle from Yankee. But lighting a Pumpkin Pie candle and turning on James Taylor's October Road album encapsulates everything fall to me. My happy place. I might have to divulge my love for James Taylor in another post.
I hope this gives you some easy, quick and cheap ideas that you can do for your NEST TODAY! And welcome in the fall weather without going fall crazy yet :) Because I do that, but I like to wait just a liiiiiittle bit longer.
Next post I am going to update you on some AMAZING projects Mike Wedman Homes and I are working on together. Until then...
Love Your "Almost Fall" Nest,
see her on the VMAs?? She killed it.
